Version 1.0 · Effective 2026-10-03
CodeX End User License Agreement
CodeX is an educational reference assistant. It is not the code, and it is not professional, legal or engineering advice. Its summaries and AI-written answers can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. You, the professional, remain responsible for following the code as adopted and enforced where the work is, including anything CodeX missed or got wrong.
This is the agreement the app shows before first use, and again whenever its version changes.
1. Agreement
This End User License Agreement is between you and bcl.net ("we", "us"), the publisher of CodeX. By tapping "I Agree" or by using CodeX you accept this agreement. If you do not agree, do not use CodeX.
CodeX is a tool for people who work in the building trades. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use it. CodeX is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
This agreement has a version number. When we change it, CodeX shows the new version and asks you to accept it before you continue.
2. Educational and reference use only
CodeX is provided for educational and general reference purposes only. It is an assistant that helps you find and understand building-code requirements by trade and place.
CodeX is not the code. It is not legal, engineering, design or other professional advice, and it does not provide professional services. It does not replace the official code text, the manufacturer's installation instructions, the permit documents, or the decisions of the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
3. Summaries are not the official code
The section text in CodeX is our own summary of model codes. It is not the official text and it is not reviewed or endorsed by any code publisher or government body. It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong.
States, counties and cities adopt different editions and amend them. The adoption and amendment information in CodeX may be incomplete or out of date, and for some places CodeX shows a general reference rather than the code actually enforced there. Always confirm the requirement in the official code as adopted and amended where the work is, and with the AHJ.
4. AI-written answers
Written answers are produced by a third-party AI model that you choose and configure. AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete, and it can misapply a section even when it cites one. A citation in an answer is a pointer for you to check; it is not a guarantee that the answer is correct or complete.
5. You remain responsible for your work
You are solely responsible for your work and for complying with every applicable code, law, regulation, permit condition, licensing requirement, manufacturer instruction and safety practice.
If CodeX leaves out a requirement, states one incorrectly, or says nothing about it, the requirement still applies and you remain responsible for meeting it. Use your own professional judgment and verify information before you rely on it. Do not use CodeX as the only basis for a design, installation, inspection or approval decision.
CodeX is not for emergencies. If there is a danger to life or property, such as a gas leak, contact emergency services or the utility.
6. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use CodeX for your own personal or internal business purposes, subject to this agreement.
You may not sell, rent or sublicense CodeX, present its content as official code text or as professional advice to others, or use it in violation of any law. Open-source components, including any CodeX source code we publish, are licensed under their own terms, and those terms govern that code.
7. Third-party services and your information
Before this agreement, CodeX asks for your first name, last name and email address. Giving them is optional. If you do, CodeX keeps them on your device and, when you accept this agreement, sends them with the version you accepted, the date and your platform to us at apphaus@outlook.com, using an email delivery service. We use it as a record of who accepted this agreement.
When you ask a question, CodeX sends the question and the matching code summaries to the AI provider you configured, under your own account and API key. That provider's terms and privacy policy apply to that use, and you are responsible for its charges. Usage, cost and credit figures shown in CodeX are estimates.
Voice input is processed by your device's speech-recognition service. If you choose "Use my location", CodeX uses your location once to pick a jurisdiction. Links open websites that we do not control and are not responsible for.
8. No warranty
CODEX IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT CODEX OR ANY ANSWER IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT OR SUITABLE FOR ANY JOB, OR THAT WORK DONE WITH ITS HELP WILL COMPLY WITH ANY CODE OR PASS ANY INSPECTION.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, FAILED INSPECTION, REWORK, DELAY, FINE, PENALTY, LOSS OF PROFIT OR LOSS OF LICENSE ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON CODEX. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO CODEX IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR CODEX IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US $50.
Some places do not allow certain exclusions or limits, so some of the above may not apply to you.
10. Your responsibility for claims
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend us against, and hold us harmless from, claims by others that arise out of your work, your use of CodeX in breach of this agreement, or your violation of any law.
11. Ending this agreement
You may stop using CodeX at any time by deleting it. Your license ends automatically if you breach this agreement. Sections 2 through 5 and 8 through 12 continue to apply after it ends.
12. General
This agreement is the entire agreement between you and us about CodeX. If a court finds part of it unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. This agreement is governed by the laws of the place where bcl.net is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of the place you live requires otherwise.
If you obtained CodeX from an app store, the store's operator is not a party to this agreement and has no obligation to provide support or any warranty for CodeX; where the store's terms require it, the operator may enforce this agreement as a third-party beneficiary.
